Business Marketing?
(Untitled)

Brown is the sole owner of a small market garden business .The firm has a small shop on the site, selling its produce. Brown has decided to exapnd the shop and buy in flowers, vegetables and garden equipment from wholesalers.

a) What extra costs might be involved in expanding the business
b) Brown needs advice on how to finance this expansion. Where could he get this advice?
c)Brown considers two alternatives :
(i) Borrowing the money from a bank
(ii)Taking on a partner
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
d) To increase his sales Brown decides he will need to advertise
(i) How could he find out the type of consumer he should be trying to reach?
(ii) What methods of advertising is Brown likely to use?
give reasons to support your ideas.

read the book principles of marketing . It looks to me as you want someone else to do your homework. The Mr. Brown scenario can be fun because it comes down to speculations. There is not wrong answer.

Have fun

How much rent to charge?

I have just purchased my first house and am looking to rent a room out. Its a 3 bedroomed property with courtyard style garden. They will have use of everything ie. washing m/c, cooker, internet connection etc, utility bills would be included except weekly shop. House is based in Downham Market, Norfolk and has just been totally refurbished with all new equipment etc.
Thanks for the advice Back Man - useful thing to know!

Not sure on the rent but I have some advice. Do not call whoever rents the room a "Tenant" or put it down in an agreement as tenant. call them a "Paying Guest" which means you will not have to declare the "rent" money for tax purposes. If they are a "tenant" you will.

Why do most Americans underrate the 101st Airborne and French Foreign Legion while overating the USMC?

Most Americans keep saying that the French Foreign Legion and the 101st Airborne are sissy ******* compared to the Marines and that Marines are the finest fighting force in the wrold.THIS COMPLETE BULLSHIT!IF marines are so good how come they suffer large casualties when fighting small insergents like in Iraq!If they were so tough, how come most of them can't handle regular Airborne(not 101st Airborne training, which is the most elite after 82nd Airborne) training and French Foreign Legion training? If they are as elite as people say how come they need to bring large equipment such as tanks and large fire power all the time? The 101st Airborne and the French Foreign Legion are often given far more dangerous missions than Marines recieve and are given less equipment and firepower(most of the time the 101st Airborne and the French Foreign Legion only have assault rifles and a few grenades when on missions) against much more skilled more battle hardened and larger enemy foreces;yet they suffer far less casualties than the USMC!Plus the physical fitness of a 101st Airborne soldier and French Foreign Legionnaires far outmatch even the most fit marines! Marine Force Recon group who took regular Airborne training and French Foreign Legion training stated that these two training courses are the far harder than anything they took as a marine! Why do most Americasn underrate the 101st Airborne and the French Foreign Legion? Why do they overrate the USMC?

If you want proof of the skill of the French Foreign Legion research the following:

Also research basic French Foreign Legion training;it make USMC training seem like for *******!

Hollywood stereoypes showing the Marines as THE elite force, the French legion as a bunch of former prisoners (to repeat Sue's answer) and the 101 Airborne as a 2 minutes appendix in the film when it is mentioned at all, hanging below darkened chutes. Most people have little military in depth knowledge, they don't even know real history anymore, what they know is what they 'learned' through films (U-571 to name one) or politician soundbites (France never won a single war is the latest fad).
I did hear that the US elite sent to follow the French Legion training in South America suffered greatly.

Just to correct Sue's answer, the Legion refuses automatically murderers and rapists, and has the right to refuse anyone it doesn't like without having to give a reason. And in 2007 nearly 12 percent of U.S. Army recruits who entered basic training needed a special waiver for those with criminal records.

Amen man

Its the media buddy that overate them. Marines aren't actually that great considered to other country. Like for god sakes Canadian soldiers are on par to Marine training.

101st is a special force though and are Truly amazing. They are the unsung hero's.

I do respect the Marine Force Recon(WHO ACTUALLY PROVE IT WHEN THEY SAY THEY ARE TOUGH)!I hate the regular USMC mariness because they KEEP ACTING AND BRAGGING THEY ARE THE BEST and that all special forces units including the BRITISH SAS and Green Berets are pussies, but the regular USMC ARE A COMPLETE BUNCH OF LOUDMOUTHED PUSSIES who can't handle regular insurgents in Iraq ane are to pussy to pass regular Airborne training!

Its a pride thing...much like your much lauded French Foreign Legion at Camerone where all but 3 were massacred & each year the Legion hauls out Danjou's wooden hand.

In the end, the real opinions that matter belong to those who've served combat duty in those units. Typically, those who've 'seen the elephant' don't run their mouths off about the experience, or loudly scream 'our team is better than yours' as much as you do.

  • Growing Demand for Convenience Drives the Food Extension ...

    LONDON -

As living standards improve and lifestyle paces quicken, our eating habits and preferences shift markedly toward time-saving products. The resultant high demand for prepared foodstuffs and convenience foods requiring better protection from oxidation bolsters the use of antioxidants. Nevertheless, growing industry costs continue to bog down the antioxidants market in Europe.

    (Logo: www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20081117/FSLOGO)

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (www.food.frost.com), EU Food and Feed Shelf-life Extension Antioxidants Market, finds that the market earned revenues of over $257.6 million in 2008 and estimates this to reach $348.6 million in 2015. The study covers prospects for shelf-life extension antioxidants, hindered phenols antioxidants, gallate antioxidants, vitamin C and E antioxidants, and ethoxyquin antioxidants.

“The long-term growth in consumption of poultry, and increased interest in pork consumption drives the food and feed antioxidants market in Europe,” says Frost & Sullivan Program Manager Sangeetha Srinivasan. “The higher levels of concentrates fed to these intensively-produced animals have a much stronger requirement for shelf-life extension antioxidants, although are also used in ruminant feeds. Thus, the market is growing healthily with an increasing overall trend for shelf-life extension food and feed antioxidants.”
